Coastal Fire Centre map

The Coastal Fire Centre is one of six regional wildland fire centres operated by the B.C. Forest Service's Wildfire Management Branch. The Coastal Fire Centre, located in Parksville on Vancouver Island, is the fire dispatch and operational centre for wildland fire fighting in south coastal B.C., the province's most populated area.

The Coastal Fire Centre covers all the area west of the height of land on the Coast Mountain range from the U.S./Canada border at Manning Park to Tweedsmuir Park in the north, the lower mainland, the Sunshine Coast, all of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

The Coastal Fire Centre includes the rich forests and wildlands of Manning Park, up through the Fraser Canyon, north to Tweedsmuir Park and Bella Coola, and then south to Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, the Sunshine Coast and the lower mainland.

Throughout this region, the landscapes are a rich mix of western hemlock, Douglas fir, red cedar, and mountain hemlock trees.

The Coastal Fire Centre supports six zones and 12 fire bases throughout the region. The hard-working fire fighters in these zones work on three-person Initial Attack crews or 20-person Unit crews. The Coastal Fire Centre has 18 Initial Attack crews and five Unit crews for a total of 154 fire fighters.
