Prior to the start of each operational season, new crew members take part in a Provincial Boot Camp in Meritt, B.C. After successfully completing this training, the recruit returns to his/her designated base where further proficiency training takes place.
Fire Crew members receive instruction in:
- Protection Program Overview
- Fundamentals of Fire fighting
- Portable Pumps and Water Deliver Systems
- Fire Communications
- WHMIS, Dangerous Goods
- Helicopter Safety and Helipad Construction
- Fire Weather/Fire Behaviour Prediction
- Safe Driving
- Burning Off and Backfiring/Use of Bulldozers
- Chainsaw Safety
- Wilderness Survival
- Survival First Aid (Level One)
- Safety and Fire Behaviour
- Fire Entrapment Avoidance and Fire Shelter Deployment
Each year, a New Recruit Boot camp takes place.
