CIFAC
There are two base managers, one crew coordinator, one cook and eleven 3-person initial attack crews at CIFAC, located at the Cariboo Fire Centre. Crews are transported to fires by helicopter and by truck. They can be repositioned to CIFAC-Puntzi at Puntzi Mountain in the Chilcotin, as well as throughout the province and across the country. Crews are equipped to remain at a fire site for up to 24 hours.
Fire Injuns
The Cariboo Fire Injuns are a 20-person Unit Crew stationed at the
Cariboo Fire Centre in Williams Lake. They are specially trained to battle large fires in rough terrain. They are self-contained and can fight wildfires for up to three days, before additional supplies are required.
The Cariboo Fire Injuns are one of 18 Native Unit Crews in B.C., and are a part of the Native Unit Crew Program, implemented in 1991, whose goal is to increase participation of native people in the B.C. Forest Service.
Chilcotin Ravens
The Chilcotin Ravens Unit Crew is a 20-person crew based out of Alexis Creek, approximately 120 km west of Williams Lake. The crew, established July 5, 2004 is currently 75 per cent staffed. The crew is trained for expanded attack on fires which are too large for, or beyond the suppressive capabilities of initial attack crews. The crew is self-contained and can fight wildfires for up to three days before additional supplies are required.
Quesnel Blackwater
The Quesnel Blackwater Unit Crew is a 20-person crew based out of Quesnel, approximately 60 minutes north of Williams Lake.
The crew is trained for expanded attack on fires that are too large for, or beyond the suppressive capabilities of initial attack crews. The crew is self-contained and can fight wildfires for up to three days before additional supplies are required.
Storm Riders
The Storm Riders are a 20-person Unit Crew stationed at just outside 100 Mile House, approximately 60 minutes south of Williams Lake. The crew is trained for expanded attack on fires that are too large for, or beyond the suppressive capabilities of initial attack crews. The crew is self-contained and can fight wildfires for up to three days before additional supplies are required.
